Bridging Communication and Edge Intelligence through Machine Learning

Short Abstract

As the amount of data generated by edge devices continue to increase, traditional models of centralized processing are no longer sufficient. This keynote explores how Machine Learning (ML) can be leveraged to jointly address the challenges of data communication and edge computing, enabling a new paradigm of distributed intelligence. We will discuss how ML techniques can help select which data should be transferred and determine how data should be transmitted over the radio link, while supporting real-time data fusion and decision-making at the network edge. Addressing resource allocation and adaptive compression, the talk will highlight how integrating ML into edge devices as well as into the fabric of edge networks allows for more resilient, efficient, and context-aware systems. The keynote will also discuss open research questions and the importance of a unified approach to data communications and computing toward scalable edge intelligence.

View on 6G from Nokia and European Flagship Hexa-X-II

Short Abstract

The next generation of cellular technology 6G has been under research for many years and has now entered the initial stage of technical specifications at 3GPP. The combination of new services, device expansion and surge in AI usage are fueling data traffic growth. This challenge needs to be addressed in a sustainable way, from point of view of environmental, social and economic sustainability. This presentation will give an overview of the current status with 6G.
